How to use Serial/Model Number Extractor

Service techs and ops teams constantly hunt for the right alphanumeric string on equipment labels. This preset narrows OCR to likely serial characters, adds denoising, and surfaces probable matches first so you can copy them into tickets without combing through the fine print. It ranks matches by length and character mix, nudging the most plausible codes to the top of the results list.

  1. Capture a close, well-lit photo of the product label or rating plate and upload it to the tool.
  2. Let the preset enhance the print, apply the serial whitelist, and watch the progress ring for completion.
  3. Review the highlighted list of candidate serials and model numbers. Double-check the raw text below for context if needed.
  4. Copy the correct code or download the TXT export to attach to your maintenance log.

If glare obscures metallic plates, snap from a slight angle while keeping the serial area sharp. The whitelist will filter noise, but clear captures give the best results. Save the text export with your maintenance log so future service calls can reuse the verified serial without another photo hunt.

FAQ

What counts as a serial number?

The regex targets alphanumeric codes between 8 and 18 characters, optionally with hyphens, which matches most hardware serial formats.

Does it filter other text?

Yes. Only strings that look like serials are surfaced so you can copy the important codes without noise.

Can I export more context?

The raw OCR output is still available below if you need to double-check logos or disclaimers on the label.

Does glare matter?

Matte lighting helps. If you see streaks, tilt the device or snap another photo for higher contrast.
